News just out gives a preview of what’s coming August 24, 2011 to enhance the lens line-up for this small but powerful camera series – I’m still happy with my SEL18200!
So now we can’t really expect the electronic viewfinder I would so like to see. I asked Sony about the possibility of them offering an EVF for the NEX-5 with the following email:
“I own a NEX-5 and have just bought an SEL18200. The OSS is awesome and the lens beats the other two kit lenses easily. BUT this lens makes it very clear that the camera needs a Digital Viewfinder (DVF) accessory. The LCD display is great, but it cannot compete with the summer sun – in sunshine we can currently only guess at what we’re framing! Such an accessory DVF should/could also have a piggy-back adapter for a flash unit incorporated. Please let me know when a Digital Viewfinder accessory for the NEX cameras will become available to make this already excellent camera even better and more useful.
I look forward to a positive reply. Many thanks.”
I got the following suggestion on July 14, 2011, quote: “Also when you use NEX-5 outdoors, we recommend you to set the brightness of the LCD monitor to “Sunny Weather” (Handbook page105). It would be set brightly than you make the maximum brightness with the manual control.” and further to the EVF, “In reply to your inquiry, we regret to inform you that the release of the Digital Viewfinder accessory which you hope for is undecided now.”
